Wielerflits interviews Dutch Pro Team

Written by Dutch Pro Team at 22:41 24/1-2011

The good contacts between Dutch Pro Team's manager Ruurd Egtberts and cycling-journalism website 'Wielerflits' led to an interview of 'Wielerflits' with a few riders of DPT and, of course, the manager himself.

At first, the changes in the team are really extrime compared to the team's presentation of 01/08/11. 5 riders left Dutch Pro Team, of which Addisson Tacchini and Montez Commesso were the most important riders. Ruurd Egtberts sais:'The magic was gone. They wanted to become more important and they wanted to have a free role in some races, but we decided to give Coos (Merenga) all the support. They disagreed with that choise, so they left'.
The most important newcomer seems to be Saturnin Zabaleta, a very experienced rider who left slico's Sprint4Live to join DPT. 'I liked the attitude from the team the moment I first saw them racing on TV', he sais. 'I will help my captain Coos Merenga as much as I can, but I think I'm too good to be just a Team Mate. I want to win races!'

The other new riders of DPT are unknown for most people, but Egtberts scouted them himself. 'There are two riders who can be great aids in the mountain races, Arlen Gabriel and Pierre Zeldenrust. We also found two young riders for the flat stages, Frans Vervoort and Vladimir Gospodinov.'
But make those 4 new riders the team stronger? Zabaleta thinks so:'I saw those climbers at work in our first race and I'm impressed. I absolutely love the style of Arlen (Gabriel). It looks so (damn) easy if he is doin' it.'
Egtberts, however, is more curious about the progression the other riders, the flat road riders, will make. He predicts that they will have an absolutely great future. 'Frans Vervoort will be our man for the sprints in the future, but Vladimir (Gospodinov) is the best young rider I've ever seen. His talent for cobble stones is unbelievable.

So we talked to Gospodinov. The shy Bulgarian rider is predicted to have a very bright future, but he doesn't really get what has happened the last few days:'I just signed a contract with NECFTW, but DPT came and they promised me such good circumstances and instruments to become a top rider that I couldn't reject it. I think this is the right team for me.'

At last 'Wielerflits' caught some news about the team leaders of Dutch Pro Team. It seems that the son of Ruurd Egtberts will be the first man this year. 'That's true', Tijmen Egtberts, or Feilluu, sais, 'My father and I agreed that I would lead the team this year. The riders will be more agressive this year. That is what people want, don't they, agressive and attacking riders? They want epic races and we're going to give it to them... And maybe, if we're lucky, we'll win some of those.'
